Date and time: Thursday December 12 from 08:30 to 09:30 (Central European Time, UTC+1)
The Australasian Centre for Corporate Responsibility (ACCR) is a research and shareholder advocacy organisation, which assists institutional capital to understand investment risks and opportunities during the energy transition.
ACCR will present the report Equinor’s challenge: which way to Paris? (2024), evaluating whether Equinor’s operations are aligned with the Paris Agreement, and the potential to align with Paris climate goals without materially diluting shareholder value.
Equinor claims to be operating in line with the Paris Agreement, but climate scientists reject this claim. Among shareholders, views differ. The main shareholder, the Norwegian state, voted in favour of Equinor’s Energy Transition Plan, arguing that “the company is clear that its long-term value creation supports the goals of the Paris Agreement and the 1.5-degree pathway.” Other shareholders, led by Sarasin & Partners, have urged Equinor to increase the pace of its low-carbon transition, and bring its strategy and capital spending in line with the Paris Agreement.
